Nao Tatsumi
辰巳菜穂
Born in Fukushima, Japan in 1983, Nao Tatsumi is an artist based in Yokohama. She graduated from the Department of Architectural Design at the School of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba.
Working from the premise that the world is shaped by countless choices and contingencies, she has created paintings in which images of street corners from around the world—captured through Google Maps Street View—are combined and overlaid with paint as a physical intervention. Through this process, she depicts landscapes where coincidence, displacement, and uncertainty intersect.
More recently, she has developed Unformed, a series inspired by landscapes distorted through glass. Beginning with the question of what perception might be before it is organized into memory and interpretation, the series explores a nameless world that exists just before understanding takes shape.
She has exhibited extensively in Japan and internationally. Her practice also includes collaborations with apparel brands, advertising projects, and the creation of murals for restaurants and hotels.

筑波大学芸術専門学群建築デザインを卒業し、横浜市を拠点に活動。
世界が無数の選択と偶然の連なりによって成立しているという前提のもと、Google Mapsのストリートビューで撮影された世界中の街角の画像を複数組み合わせ、そこに自身の身体的な操作として絵具を重ねることで、偶然やズレが交錯する風景を描いてきた。
最近では、ガラス越しに歪む風景をモチーフに、記憶や解釈へと至る以前の未分化な知覚とはどのようなものかという問いを起点として、「理解」が成立する直前の名のない世界を描くシリーズ「Unformed」を発表。
国内外の展覧会に多数出展し、アパレルとのコラボレーションや広告クリエイティブ、飲食店・ホテルの壁画制作も手がけている。
